It is with great sadness that The Brighouse & Rastrick Band learned of the death of one of their former Professional Conductors.

James Samuel Scott or ‘Jim’ to all who knew him died on the morning of 24th January.

Jim came to B&R in early 1973 and conducted the band at the British Open, where the band were placed 3rd, they then went on to successfully win the 1973 National finals where the test piece was ‘Freedom’.

After a short concert tour of Switzerland, he led the band to further success by winning the 1975 Granada Band of the Year.

After spending some time away from B&R he returned in 1981 and won the European Championships on ‘Caliban’ and the own choice piece of ‘Fantasy for Brass Band’.

Jim then continued his career with several other bands before retiring from conducting in 2006.

The Band’s condolences go to his family.
