Hey!… to Haigh

We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Paul Haigh to the band as our new Solo Baritone player!

Paul’s brass band journey began when he picked up the cornet at just eight years old with Armthorpe Elmfield Brass Band. He later joined Markham Main before taking a break to focus on university.

In 1991, Paul returned to banding, this time on Baritone. Just a few years later, in 1994, he won the prestigious CISWO National Solo contest.

Since then, Paul has played with some of the finest bands in the brass world, including GUS, Carlton Main Frickley, Grimethorpe Colliery, and the legendary Yorkshire Building Society Brass Band. It was with YBS that Paul first played under the renowned Professor David King, helping secure a European Championship win.

Speaking about joining us, Paul said, “It is a great privilege for me now to join the ranks of The Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band, an historic Yorkshire band, and to sit amongst a band of truly great musicians.”

Paul made his official debut with us this weekend at the Brass in Concert Championships, delivering a fantastic performance and helping us achieve a brilliant 2nd place finish. From the moment Paul walked into the bandroom, he made a huge impression and showed why he’s regarded as one of the very best on his instrument.

We’re so excited to have Paul on board. Please join us in giving him a warm welcome!
