Principal Cornet – Tom Smith

Tom Smith is currently in his third undergraduate year at the Royal Northern College of Music studying Music Performance on cornet under Richard Marshall and Professor Roger Webster.

Brought up in Cornwall, Tom started playing cornet in The Camborne Junior Contesting Band under MD Alan Pope (BEM), where he stayed until leaving in 2018 to start his studies in Manchester.
From 2014-2018, he played with the Cornwall Youth Brass Band, Cornwall Youth Orchestra, Cornwall Youth Jazz Orchestra and Cornwall Youth Brass Ensemble.

From 2016-2019, Tom played with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, where he moved his way up from 2nd cornet to assistant principal cornet.

Since moving to Manchester, Tom has played on front row with the Grimethorpe Colliery band, and principal cornet with the Pemberton Old Wigan DW Band.
