Principal Cornet – Kyle Lawson

Born in New Zealand, Kyle Lawson was mentored by the highly respected cornet player Kevin Jarrett and is regarded as one of the most gifted young brass players of his generation. He is currently completing a degree in music studies at the University of Salford.A recipient of the Adrienne, Lady Stewart Performance Bursary in 2010, Kyle was appointed Principal Cornet of the National Youth Brass Band of New Zealand in 2011.Kyle won the New Zealand Junior Champion of Champions solo title in 2010, the New Zealand Amateur Cornet Championship in 2011, became National Cornet Champion in 2013 and was crowned the inaugural New Zealand Young Brass Musician of the Year in 2014. In 2015, Kyle won the title of Australian and New Zealand Cornet Champion.Kyle was a member of the prestigious New Zealand Army Band from 2010 and returned to the UK in 2018 to join Brighouse & Rastrick for the second time.
