Following the recent departure of Kathleen Gaspoz, Brighouse and Rastrick has acted swiftly in appointing the New Zealand cornet star, Kyle Lawson, to the position of Principal Cornet with immediate effect.
Kyle has held the principal cornet position previously with Brighouse in 2015 before returning to NZ to complete his professional career with the NZ Army Band. He has also won the Australian cornet championship and NZ National cornet championship on three occasions.
Kyle was the inaugural ‘New Zealand Young Brass Musician of the Year’ and has been a recipient of the Dame Adrienne Stewart Performance Bursary since 2010.
Kyle will continue his musical education at the University of Salford as a transfer student from Victoria University, Wellington.

A spokesman for Brighouse & Rastrick commented:
“Kyle is a remarkable cornet player, well acquainted with top class banding here in the UK and abroad. Everyone at Brighouse welcomes Kyle’s return to the band and his imminent appointment to the principal cornet chair as the band continues preparation for the British Open”.

Kyle added:
“It’s great to be back living in the UK and I’m particularly proud to be
offered the opportunity to once again play for Brighouse & Rastrick”.
