Players from The Brighouse & Rastrick Band enjoyed themselves on January 6th at the annual B&R and friends party to celebrate the past 12 months.

Held at the local Waterfront Lodge Hotel, the players and friends of B&R arrived dressed for the occasion and enjoyed a 3 course meal fit for a champion band!

Becoming a tradition, the event also sees awards (some serious, some not so serious…!) for the players to be awarded.

A huge congratulations to the Band’s chairman, Ste Cavanagh, who won the “Bandsman of the Year” for working countless of hours a week for the band.

Successful performances on the contest and concert stage also saw Andy Moore, who effortlessly stepped up and made the Solo Horn seat his own, awarded from the Band’s Professional Conductor, Professor David King, the “DK Player of the Year award. The band members also voted for their Principal Cornet, Kyle Lawson, and 2nd Trombone player, Ellena Newton, to be awarded “Player of the Year” and “Best ‘Rank and File’ Performer at a Contest” respectively.

There were plenty of laughs and stories to be told throughout the night over some quality food and hospitality from Waterfront Hotel and Venue. A big thank you to the Band’s 2nd Cornet player, Hayley Moore for being Chief Organiser of the event, and the Band’s 2nd Eb Bass, William Evans, for being a fantastic host of the awards!

A full collection of Gordon Ratcliffe’s photos will appear on the Band’s website in the next few weeks.
